Que comece a funilaria / Let's get started

Após quase um ano parada na garagem, somente sendo ligada de tempos em tempos para manter tudo funcionando, finalmente a kombi saiu para funilaria. Assim que os serviços de fato começarem, iremos postar fotos semanalmente para que todos possam acompanhar o processo de reforma juntos conosco.
Agora o que nos resta é esperar pelo resultado.

After almost one year parked in the garage, the bus has finally left for the bodywork. As soon as it really begins we will post pictures here every week, so that you can follow all the restoration process along with us.
Now, all we can do is wait for the result.

The car

This is the pretty blue VW bus that will lead us to the confines of South America. Bought in a city about 38 miles away from where we live, this car's maiden voyage with our family was all the way from there to the place where we live. This first trip seemed to have taken a little longer than it actually did and maybe this was due to the fact that only one of the car's door could really close, plus the fact that we had brakes in only one of the four wheels. Well, all of these things should be pretty understandable when talking about a car which is almost 40 years old. At the end of it all, we arrived home safe and sound.

Essa "velha senhora" vista na foto é a entrépida Kombi que nos levará até os confins da América do Sul. Comprada em São Gonçalo, sua viagem inaugural conosco foi o percurso de lá até Mesquita, numa viagem que pareceu ter durado muito mais do que realmente durou. Talvez, o tempo tenha se alongado um pouco devido ao nervosismo de estar dirigindo um carro onde a única porta que realmente fechava era a do motorista, fora o freio que só funcionava na roda dianteira esquerda. Pois bem, não dava para esperar muito de uma lenda que completava quase quarenta anos de serviços bem prestados, mas no fim das contas chegamos em casa sãos, salvos e também com uma multa por trafegar no acostamento.

The beginning

In this blog you guys will follow the incredible adventure of a family from Rio de Janeiro in its trip throughout South America. A long trip which starts in Rio and goes down the continent until Ushuaia, which is the southest city in the world. After that, we will make our way back home crossing the Atacama desert until Antofagasta city. This whole trip would already be an odyssey by itself, but to make things even more challenging, we will do all that in a 1973 VW bus.
